Central Costa Rica
We left the coast briefly to visit a fellow cyclist, Chris, who is living in San Jose. He took us to the student hangouts for pizza and beer - a welcome change from chicken and rice.
Close to San Jose is Braulio Carrillo National Park which preserves a beautiful area of virgin rainforest.
We took a gondola to get a closer look at the forest canopy.
On one of the hiking trails we spotted a coati, a relative of the raccoon shown here and a sloth sleeping in the trees.
A small but poisonous viper.
The cicada beetle makes an amazing amount of noise something like that of grinding metal in a workshop.
Scary looking insect.
