Tequila
The main crop in the mountains between Tepic and Guadalajara is the blue agave, a relative of the pineapple from which tequila is made.
The tequila is made from the juices of the fruit which grows in the centre of the agave shown above.
Having cycled past miles of agave plantations, we thought we should take a look at how Tequila is made on a factory tour at the town of Tequila.
This included lots of free samples. Unfortunately it was only 10am and we had to continue cycling to Guadalajara afterwards.  Vowed never to drink and ride again.
Mural in the Sauza Tequila factory showing its effects.
