We crossed into Nicaragua at Guasaule into the department of Chinandega,
one of the areas worst hit by Hurricane Mitch in 1998. Most of the road
remains unpaved and this combined with ferocious heat (a high of 45 C
that day) meant that progress was slow. |
|
We realised we could not make it to Leon before dark but
managed to find an agricultural college where we were given permission to
camp. We shared this classroom with a very large scorpion! |
|
There were loads of cute chicks at the college. |

Methane gas emitted from the waste from this pigsty is
used to power a stove in the college kitchen. |
