| South of Meziadin Junction we came across a mushroom camp. Pine mushrooms are highly sought after in Japan and grow only in certain conditions found here. They can fetch large amounts in Japan depending on the mushrooms' relative abundance or scarcity worldwide. If you have some spare time you can earn $25 per pound for trudging through the forests picking these mushrooms. The buyers drive them overnight to Vancouver where they are packaged and flown the following morning to Japan. |

| You wouldn’t think it was that special looking at it. We tried some on top of a burger. Tasted good but we didn’t think we'd pay $250 per pound for it. |

| In this area, the indigenous people traditionally made totem poles which were raised at special events and carved with images relating to the history of the family who erected it. In some villages we passed through totems are still raised on special occasions. |

| The main problem we encountered in the more coastal areas of British Colombia was the rain. We had heard that the weather is drier up in the Rockies and so we decided to head East along the Yellowhead Highway to try to escape the wet. |

| In the mean time we tried various methods to keep our shoes dry, including cling film. We found that plastic shopping bags work best. |
